You forgot to mention the Confederate Black soldiers who were also highly honored and regarded by their white peers. About 15% of the Confederate Army was black and they served bravely. They knew the war was not about slavery but whether there would be a strong Federal government or not. A strong federal government would be tyrannical.

The big difference, the Northern troops were segregated, the Confederate Army was integrated. Prejudice started in the North, not the South.

What really gets me is that after every battle the USCT's fought in someone always had the quote " the question of whether the negro will fight is settled". Its like how many times did they need to stop bullets just as good as whitemen to show that they were men? Those were sad times!

Davis issued a big ass proclamation to RE-ENSLAVE all freed slaves. Read it -- just stunning.  See Jordon's "Black Confederates" Appendix C page 319.

Not true. There were thousands of free blacks living in the south during the Civil War. However there wasn't large numbers of them fightying for the south like many CSA apologists claim.

The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If anyone thinks free blacks fought for the Confederacy -- you are insane.

Not only because it did not happen - but because there WERE no free blacks.

Jeff Davis issued an order Jan 5, 1863 to place "all freed blacks back on the slave status forever".

Plus --the effort by some to DRAFT slaves -- not freemen (which did not exist anyway) -- never materialized in time.

The few blacks that were with the CSA were slaves of some officers. They were not in the CSA.

Nice vid. One correction to the statistics thats often misquoted. 36,000 black men died in the civil war. That's where you get the 1 out of 3 black men died in battle stat. The error is that not all these black men died in battle. In fact only 9% of black Civil War deaths were in battle ( about 2,800). The rest were from Disease. Disease was the biggest killer for all troops in the war and it killed over 33,000 black men in the war.
