WSU scientist Lynne Carpenter-Boggs is working with an international group of scientists to help find bean varieties and microbial inoculates that will improve yields on the ancient soils that farms in many parts of Africa must contend with. Dr. Carpenter-Boggs took a Flip camera to Africa and shot some wonderful footage of farms, people and animals.

Thats the africa you dont see on TV asking for charity. But africa has the most fertile land in the world. If they just think about agriculture and stop fighting over oil.

Many of the mistakes of the past were rooted in the "experts" from the west introducing the ag industrial model that was often inappropriate for the people and the local ecological conditions. What Lynne and her colleagues are doing seems to me to be on target and to have greater promise of delivering sustainable technologies. Thanks for the coverage.

Great presentation by Lynne on a critical set of topics. It is so important that research and education institutions like WSU get out into the real world and become familiar with people and conditions on the ground.
