This lady seriously looks like 93 year old Sarah Palin.

my great grandparents lived to a 100 easily. no calorie restricting just lots of lard and veggies, and hard work on the farm. so don't why that guy says ppl used to live till their 40's; ppl used to live long cuz they had good food and lots of exercise, right?

Honestly that lady has an amazing body for someone her age.

1600 and 1900 calories a day are really normal calorie amounts given their age. That's not really restricting at all. The woman looks fine but the man, not so much.

Well the average american is consuming anywhere from 2500- 3700 k/cal per day... so this is quite a bit under the average. Most people on CR have very low BMI's. I myself have a BMI of 16.4 on 1650-1750 K/cal per day... and from studies done a few years back many people underestimate just how much they eat, and it can be upto at least 20-30%. The calories they're consuming is CR'd for them because they've restricted from their own ad lib intake (which was caculated before starting CR).

I understand all that. It just seems that they are presenting this as revolutionary thinking (well, I guess for Americans it is). For most of the world, this is normal eating. The average Japanese woman eats approx. 1200 calories a day.

That calorie intake is almsot certainly wrong, it's way higher than that now. Okinawans were only mildly CR'd for half their adult like and their intake has increased since the 1960's. In 1993 their calorie intake on average was 1927 Calories per day (and Okinawans 'were' eating LESS than Mainland japan). I don't know where you got your numbers from but its not right. CR is certainly not 'the norm' as it shuts off reproduction at a certain point.

If you know the protocol in animals then you'd understand. They let the animals eat ad lib, restrict 10-20% from that (to prevent overweight), then use this as a baseline to restrict from (say another 30-60%). Check out my blog for more information some time. Link is on my profile
