"Clothes for a trip" is acceptable in this case as a clue. She couldnt have said "a trip's clothes" because it's not grammatically correct - its not illegal - its just not correct. "Clothes for a trip" would have been unacceptable if the category was perhaps Things That Are Packed because you pack clothes for a trip. You don't "case" clothes for a trip, you put clothes IN a case so it was correct and allowed and they gave her the money. Hope this makes sense. It's a very subtle, fine point.
