Writer Esther Wilson and Director Polly Teale talk about the forthcoming production of Ten Tiny Toes at the Everyman Theatre.
Like every mother Gill wants the best for her sons. Raise them well; keep them safe, clean and out of trouble. But for Michael and Chris the choices are few and far between. The only way to have the best is to be the best -- join the army.
As the brutal business of war unfolds, the boys become men their mother doesn't recognise and maternal love is put to a gruelling test. Glued to the news and linked from their sofas to the battlefield by satellite, the mothers find a political voice that is hard to hear but impossible to ignore.
Following her work on the award-winning Unprotected, Esther Wilson returns with an uncompromising account of the heart-breaking choices faced by these mothers when a distant war comes home.
This is the latest homegrown production in the highly acclaimed Capital of Culture programme at "the thrillingly revitalised Liverpool Everyman" (Independent).

I am one of the mothers who attended the peace camp and spoke to Esther, i never believed for a minute that anyone who has no link to the iraq war could possibly understand what its really like for the families at home, how wrong was i? I have just watched in 8 mins, someone put into words and describe the pain and heartache i have felt for the last 5 years and several tours later, what I could feel but not explain myself. Recommend anyone who has an interest in real life stories to see it. 5*

Brilliant I am a huge fan of Shared Experience and also Polly Teale. I have seen both War and Peace and Jane Eyre and i also played the role of Rochester in my drama performance piece of Shared Experience's adaptation of Jane Eyre.
