My First Thanksgiving is an audiovisual attempt to delve into the quintessential American holiday Thanksgiving from the perspective of an outsider. I observed, with a super 8 camera, the atmosphere in the streets of New York in the days around Thanksgiving and shot some home movie images of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with an American family. I went out in the city and asked numerous Americans what this holiday means for them and where the tradition originally comes from. Combining my observational images with a chorus of anonymous voices, a multi-layered portrait of the American holiday emerges.
