@hundefar after reading about JARPA seems over 6000 whales had to die to find out that ate 10 different prey species - this was 1989-90 & 2004-05 - really seems like over kill

@scoobyrds WRONG, idiot Scoobyrds, the Sea Shepherds have every right to keep the Japanese from killing our whales in international waters. If the Japanese want to claim a national cultural right to hunt whales, then they should do so their hunting in national JAPANESE waters. Deal with it.

@nsdtr01 They actually DO research on those ships. A lot of what we know about the current population of whales we know from the Japanese. I am not saying that this defends the actions of the whalers or anything, but there is actual, legitimate research being carried out as well as the killing of whales (which seems to be unnecessary for the research).

@nsdtr01 Its a government research program, so some is published by Japanese government, but some of it has been published in academic journals. Do a Google search for JARPA and JARPN and you'll find examples of it. There's a publication list here: icrwhale.org/JARPA91paper.htm
