I use the short approach only when the lanes are real slick and I have to slow down...the danger is "running" to the line and pulling the shot.

I changed my mind since i last posted this, over a year ago!
I belive that the 5-step technique should generally be used, and then derivatives can be made.

every bowlers difference eh. i dont do well with this technique but it see he does so he should just keep going at it if he's good at it

There's no optimum technique, just use whatever suits you best :)
