We found this Gordian worm in a pond near Enchanted Rock in central Texas. The dialogue with some passers-by is what's kind of funny. "Y'all with that biological sciences deal?"

  • How do they enter the animals body? And why are they safe for us hold them?

  • It's the worm larvae that initially infect the host, but I'm not sure how they manage, exactly. The adult worms, once they emerge from the host, are totally harmless. Couldn't hurt a fly.

  • Should you be holding that?

  • They are harmless to us.

  • @xXTHEDOUCHEBAGXx it's completely harmless to humans and won't take hold to your system if you eat it. you just shit it out from what i've read.

  • @xXTHEDOUCHEBAGXx i don't know, but if i were you, i wouldn't try it

  • wh-wh-why do you have to hold it???? D: eww

  • If you eat one, will it take you over?

  • a human hair put into water for a month will become a Gordian worms

  • these are in bugs and they serve it 2 us 0.0

  • omg ur holding it!! lol

  • They are parasites, which means they live off of another organism until they no longer need it. They just go in any way that they can. They can force the host to kill itself when they are done living off of it.

They are harmless to humans. They have no mouth. (Which also means that they can't eat, but they can live for weeks and even months)
