This is a story that aired on OETA Public Television's The Oklahoma News Report in Tulsa Oklahoma as reported by Angela Rosecrans and photojournalist Edwin Wilson. For more information or to contact us, please go to www.oeta.tv The verbatim script follows below...
AS THIS MUSLIM COMMUNITY IN TULSA BEGINS THEIR ISLAMIC CALL TO PRAYER... MUSLIMS AROUND THE WORLD ARE REACTING TO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SPEECH AT CAIRO UNIVERSITY TODAY. THE PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS, BILLED AS A FENCE-MENDING MISSION BETWEEN THE U-S AND ISLAM BEGAN WITH RESPECT FOR THE MUSLIM CULTURE.

President "i'm also proud to carry with me the good will of the american people in a greeting of peace for Muslim communities in my country. Assaluaamu alaykum....(applause)" AND WHILE THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH CONTAINED NO NEW POLICY PROPOSALS ON THE MIDDLE EAST.. HIS WORDS HIT THE HEARTS OF MANY IN THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY.

Mohamed Elghobashy/Imam "it is a beginning as we hope it will be a new relation between the united states and islamic world and we hope it will be good in the future." NUREDIN GIAYASH IS THE DIRECTOR OF PEACE ACADEMY, AN ISLAM SCHOOL IN TULSA. HE SAYS THE PRESIDENTS GESTURE TO THE ISLAMIC WORLD IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION... BUT THERE IS STILL WORK TO BE DONE.

Nuredin Giayash/Dir. Of Peace Academy "I do believe that if there are steps that follow this speech and this speech is translated into action then absolutely we'll see a different relationship between the west and east." OBAMA TALKED ABOUT THE UNBREAKABLE BOND BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE U-S BUT SAID ON THE OTHER HAND IT IS UNDENIABLE THAT THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE- MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS- HAVE SUFFERED IN PURSUIT OF A HOMELAND.

President "they endure the daily humiliations large and small that come with occupation so let there be no doubt the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable...(applause)"

Mohamed Elghobashy/Imam " for the first time I think he said that Palestinian people needs to feel free at their country also and that's a very good, very good beginning." THAT SENTIMENT SEEMS TO BE SHARED BY MANY IN THE MUSLIM WORLD. A GOOD BEGINNING WITH A HOPE OF CHANGE TO COME.

Nuredin Giayash/Dir. Of Peace Academy "I think what Muslims would like to see is that America should be an honest broker should be fair to all sides and once they see that espicially from the President of the United States then I think we will see a different middle east." IN TULSA, I'M ANGELA ROSECRANS, THE OKLAHOMA NEWS REPORT.
