On March 24, 1984, a brain, an athlete, a basketcase, a princess and a criminal met in a famous Saturday detention at Shermer High School, Shermer, Illinois. For the next 25 years people have been wondering: what happened to them on Monday? Well, here's my attempt at an answer - and a celebration of this brilliant movie's almost-25th anniversary :)
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division
footage from "The Breakfast Club" property of John Hughes (and apparently he's got more of it sitting in his basement somwhere that he won't share! We want the outtakes, mr Hughes!) and Universal Studios
notes:
this vid is quite schizophrenic - in the same way Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is, with it's bouncy, cheerful tune and dejected, morose lyrics. It's like that with the idea of 'the Monday after' for me - I fervently hope the Breakfast Club holds and its members grow stronger and wiser, but at the same time I know that everything - their families, peers, logical thinking and their own vain natures - is working against them. The society assigned them their parts to play and their places in the grander scheme and it takes a lot more than one Saturday afternoon to break free.
In my head, they keep running.
So yes, this vid is very schizophrenic. I'm sorry if it hurt your brain. I hope the bittersweet aftertaste was worth the experience.
Thanks for the feedback, Angel, glad you took time to watch :)
Of course I don't mind - I've watched St Elmo's Fire right after tBC fuelled by 'what other 80's cult classics have I missed?' excitement and liked it a lot - I don't quite see how to make this song work for St Elmo's, but I'm mightily eager to see you do it :)

Thanks! Glad I've done right by tBC fans :)
And we really should - I'd personally love buying 25th Anniversary Extended Edition :)

hey maja! *waves* once again - its been forever and a day since I've had time to sit down and catch up on fanvids and shows and luckily I picked the right time! (Dont get me started on how behind I am on LotS)
I adore John Hughes and the breakfast club is one of my favorite movies of all time. I too, hope and pray they found a way to 'escape their fate' and keep running. I positively loved this vid! 5 stars and faves.
Would you mind if I steal the song to edit a St. Elmo's fire vid with it?

This was great! As you can tell from my username, this is one of my favorite movies. :)
We need to write a petition or something to get John Hughes to release some of that footage in his basement! :)
