In the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, is the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Built by Kaiser Wilhelm in the late 1800s,, he personally dedicated the church in 1898, when he and his wife, Augusta Victoria, became the first western rulers to visit Jerusalem. The Lutheran church houses other Lutheran congregations, speaking four different languages (Arabic, German, English, and Danish) and is the headquarters of Bishop Dr. Munib A. Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL).
