A fairly young Jaguar Cichlid (known for being fairly aggressive) joins this established Jack Dempsey tank. These fish had never seen each other until this moment.
Note how the pair of Dempseys are quite interested in the Jag (which holds its own fairly well), and the larger Dempsey starts showing off a bit.
I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but there were no fights - a friend who later took care of them said the three got along great.
A friend inherited these fish and the tank from me in 2005, I no longer have them.

  • I like the end, they just go back over to the other side all like...."Yeah that's right bitch, who's the boss!".

While the Jag is just crying on his side of the tank.

  • that is a nice jack!!!

  • cool thing about these two breeds is they can cross breed

  • @scottschiller I had a jag and a jack, and the jack was a little bigger, but the jag was king of the tank. Did the jag eventually try to rule the roost. In my experience no matter their size jags and red devils seem to always try to be king on a long enough time line.

  • male or female jag?

  • Those sunnies are bullying that single crappie. Nice fishes.

  • How big do jags get and would they b ok with jack dempcy green terrors and parrots and bichir and what did u pay for it

  • I have a male n female...male at 10in n female at 5in, she neva grew since..I had them for alilo 2yrs now

  • nice, how big were they at the time?

  • How long it take for you dempseys to get that big when you had them?

  • Wow, they are both so beautiful! :)

  • my jags do the same the bow down from a fight but after the light goes out i usually find the fish picking on my jag dead the next morning. no matter the size difference.

  • That jag would be the last fish I would pit into that tank.

  • dempseys are strong buw a full grown dempsey will never be a match against a full grown jag...no way...

  • Jags are strategic, they dont start a fight that they arent sure they can survive. He will stay in that tank and dominate the food source until he is larger than the Dempseys then exert his will on them.

If you put a Dempsey in with a male female pair of jags it would get eaten pretty quick, I doubt it would last 2 days. Dempseys just arent as tough as the true killers!

  • wait there's no song. wrong video.

Anyways, isn't it unusual that you got the Jag so big at first??

  • what is this song?

  • Ya boy My jack dempsey isnt quite that big yet but he does own the tank

  • oh really? i didn't know that. Good to know ...another day another lesson !

  • @zipzero87 managuense is the scientific name. jaguar cichlid and aztec cichlid are the common names

  • great looking fish ... not trying to be a jerk to correct you bu im pretty damn sure that "jaguar" cichlid is actually called a managuense cichlid. i had one for years.

  • nice, what size tank is that?

  • @audioman628 There shouldnt be many problems. There might be a little bit of fighting but once dominance is established it should be ok

  • I wonder what it would be like the other way around. A big male and female jag and a little jack dempsey entering their tank

  • @istayswhite that's always fun to do but risky, u never know if those animals may have been exposed to pesticides outside and may end up intoxicating your fish. Would be sad indeed to loose one of these magnificent specimens.

  • in your opinion do you think jack dempsy's will get along with green terrors and parrot fishes? I have a 40 gallon tank with those fish and just came across a beautiful dempsy. I would like to get the fish but dont want to have it picked on until it dies. Any advice would be appreciated
