A test firing of a Merlin 1C engine at the SpaceX test facility in McGregor Texas. Powered by liquid oxygen and rocket grade kerosene, the Merlin produces over 100,000 pounds of thrust in vacuum, and is designed to be recovered and reused after each mission. (Video: SpaceX)
@thewebmaster93 The green flame is the same as on Lockheed SR-71, it´s Triethylborane used to ignite the engine.

SpaceX could do for the early this era what the movie Star Wars did for the '70s. Make us dream. And proves once again that anything is possible as long as the goverenment stays the hell away.

Can these single-engine tests even be heard on a typical day? They don't do multi-engine firings any more AFAIK.

I have the luck of living a couple miles from this exact location. It is awesome to see the sky light up orange and night and be able to hear the massive blasting of the Merlin engines going off.
