Renowned Anti-Racist Activist, Senate Candidate, academic, playwright and filmmaker, Sam Watson delivers a speech at the Brisbane Stop the Intervention Rally 20 June 2009 Queens Park. Sam discusses the Northern Territory and Queensland Interventions and Aboriginal Deaths in custody. In Part 1 he discusses in detail the recent handing down of a Court of Appeal judgment about the setting aside of the coronial inquest which found that Mulrunji Doomadgee had died as a result of injuries inflicted by Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley for the murder of Mulrunji Doomadgee in Palm Island Police Station November 19 2004. After a massive international political campaign and forced the Queensland government to review the decision not to charge Sergeant Hurley for Mulrunji's death. This decision was overturned and charges were laid but Senior Sergeant Hurley was acquitted by a jury in the Townsville District Court. The Queensland Court of Appeal has found in favour of the Doomadgee family to set aside the original coronial findings by Christine Clements. The Court of Appeal has ordered another inquest. Mulrunji's death caught national media attention after an alleged riot occurred on Palm Island in response to Doomadgee's death in custody. Lex Wotton was branded the alleged ringleader and has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment which he is currently serving as an Aboriginal Political Prisoner: Please Visit http://freelexwotton.blogspot.com/
