This 78rpm-record was recorded in post-war Berlin, June 1951. Macky Kasper (tp) belonged to the "RIAS-Tanzorchester" and sounded like Harry James. He was a friend of Erwin Lehn, Freddie Brocksieper and Paul Kuhn. These German musicians started to play Swing music in Berlin from 1947 onwards. The period of this type of Swing music (1947-1951) is called "Trümmer-Jazz" (Jazz in debris).
The record - Columbia DW 5186 (CR 1104-2)- is played on my "His Master's Voice" portable gramophone, "Serie 102c - green leather case (1938).

Thanks for the info about Macky Kasper. I have been searching for that before here on the internet but haven't been that lucky. Nice version of "Sleepy Lagoon". Very underrated trumpet player and orchestra leader, in my opinion.

Original (1930) by Eric Coates named: By the Sleepy Lagoon, it's a classical piece, still used in the BBC4 radioprogram Desert Island Discs for more then 60 years. You also can hear the original in the famous themepark De Efteling in Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands in the fairytale-forest..just some extra information..;-)
