Young People and Mass Media

Today is unthinkable to speak about artistic production and not to think about the New Technologies or about the processes of projection, creation or diffusion. At the same time, the Net extends in an infinite way the possibilities for studying and the approach to the images, as the experience and exchange of information. The Mass Media are taking a complex and increasing role. But, to where? We believe that perhaps we have too many stereotypes of the implication and the use of the Mass Media by young people, which do not respond to the reality. Also we suppose certain aesthetic and artistic knowledge. We wonder by the tools which they have. Which are those that they dominate, and those they use more? On the other hand also we wonder by the indifference they seems to show towards the art in spite of their passion for the image and the aesthetic (a aestheticization world parallels to the art) Which are the nearest images to our students? Which is their visual media? How are they related to them? How do they affect them? Which are their aesthetic pleasures? We ask our students (Universities of Seville, Huelva and Jaen) to answer some questions where ask them about the resources ITC they have, how they use new technologies, which are the nearest images to them, if they can touch them up, if they hang or download videos from the Net, etc. From their answers we made an analysis which we want it to serve us as a base to renew our educational practice, in order to take advantage of the power average like resource for the communication and the expression, for an artistic education that foments the reflection, the critic and the action in our students.
