Daniel Murphy demonstrates cutting, rigging, and falling techniques often used by professional arborists in tree removal. Working from the bucket there are close up examples of lowering knots and cuts, as well as using the GRCS lowering/lifting device combined with drift line and spider leg balancers to remove large limbs and wood from over a roof. Viewers may take special note of the falling cuts. Two large spars are dropped across the driveway using padding logs to prevent damage to the asphault. Daniel uses an open face notch, then plunge cuts the back cut to form the hinge before making a somewhat unique back release cut.

  • wow almost took out that light on the first cut

  • @fdny214 You noticed that huh? I put that in there especially for some guys that were talking some crap about me not needing to rope down a bunch of limbs on the "near balance point rigging" video. I'd usually rope something that close out, but I was 100% on the cut and fighting the clock... Not sure if that makes me good or reckless??? What do you think?

  • dude why are you face cuts soo shallow? i mean the top of the notch looks almost straight up and down. just asking is that a special cut or what?

  • @joshuarugg Josh, The 70º top cut is called an open face notch, you can go over 90º with it if needed.. its been around for a while, taught to loggers in the 70's .. check out "game of logging"

depth of notch is a different thing altogether... used to be standard 1/3 dimater, then the rules changed to not important how deep as long as notch is 80% diameter of tree... there are reasons for that and plenty of situations where a smaller notch-reulting hinge is just fine. you gotta know when tho.

  • That is "Hired Hands" playing the patriot song, which was covered by Jackson Brown and written by Stevie Van Zant, a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band

  • fucking hate those trees...

  • @murphy4trees Nice showed them up great vids

  • @murphy4trees if it was to put some guys in there place then that will do it placed it perfectly

  • The method with the 80% notch and the bore cut is the Sorenson method. Real nice job especially cleaning up the notch for a clean controlled drop. Good rigging methods too bad you cant here dialogue when he is planning the job sizing up the notches aligning the saw during cutting using the lines on the saw etc.
