We interviewed Robert of Swords4You, who sells medieval swords and other medieval replica products, and ask him for some tips about what kind of medieval swords one can buy, and what someone should look for when buying one of these weapons. The interview was held at the Great Northern Medieval Fayre, which was held near Toronto, Canada. Please see http://www.swords4you.com for more information.
Actually there are FIVE types of sword!
1). Wallhanger
2). Functional sword intended for mock fighting and stage combat
3). Functional wallhanger
... as he said. But the list doesn't end here.
4). Sharp "beater" of reasonable accuracy and quality for backyard cutting
5). Sharp historically accurate recreation or a precise copy of an original.
If we speak of "real medieval swords", only type 5 has the right to be called real.

I just bought arwens sword from lord of the rings, its made in pakistan, and its full tang. It has a stainless stell blade. I don't plan on swinging it much, but I still would like to hav fun with it. Here's the problem: the blade is off center from the handle, and runs closer to one side than the other. Do I need to worry about the wooden handle cracking or anything if I decide to swing it around a bit?
