One reason I bought a top feeder was to reduce the chance of my bees being robbed. But my top feeder had a leak which promoted a flurry of robbing. Fortunately the good people at Brushy Mountain Bee Farm http://BrushyMountainBeeFarm.com are expediting me a new beehive top feeder. That should take care of the robbing problem.

  • I suspect that the feeder that you have on the left that you have to keep filling is leaking. If they are really eating a gallon in 48 hours that feeder would be full of bees all the time. I only see a couple of bees on the feeder.

  • @Bleemus You are absolutely correct. It was leaking.

  • I started out last year with 2 hives. I am now at 14. Top feeders are great; but I found that a feeding station away from the hives work better for me. Quart jars with sugar water and I never feed them a mixed patty either. I do a dry feed. They collect it like pollen. Cuts down on bugs and mess in your hives. I take pride in my hives lie you do. Keep up the good work. Just a suggestion. Works best for me. : )

  • @shampton68 Awesome comments. It would be great if you could video your feeding station of the sugar water and the dry feed. That would really be helpful.

  • Leakage problems with these feeders like you have seen are common. Also, the mason jars on the front of the hive often encourage robbing. Here's a better, cheaper alternative. Buy a one quart paint can and fill it up halfway with sugar and half water. Stir it up until it is clear. Put on the lid and punch a half dozen small holes in the lid. Place on top of inner cover over hole. Put an empty hive body around can and put on the lid. This will NEVER cause robbing or leaking.

  • @Keith5274 Great idea. Thanks.
