Have you ever wondered how much memory does Windows Vista need to use Firefox 3? And how much does Linux?, in this case OpenSUSE 11.

Windows Vista with Aero enabled (and of course another few background programs that anyone normally use) just after rebooting.

OpenSUSE 11 running with KDE 4 and with Compiz Fusion enabled and other programs like cairodock and emesene.

  • If you're like me and have been involved with computers for the last 30+ years Linux will come naturally.

The people who have a difficult time understanding Windows won't be doing much better in Linux.

I believe that people have a difficult time making the switch because they're either dependant or familiar with their current applications. Many don't know there is a Linux equivalent available. Why spend $350 for MS Office when Open Office is free?

  • LMAO, you're the idiot. Vista is a fucking resource hog no matter how you look at it. As far as resources are concerned, Linux will ALWAYS own that piec of shit OS called Vista. Even MicroShaft has given up on it (hence they're releasing Windows 7 ahead of schedule). Vista was one of the biggest OS flops ever.

  • @hrbear The thing is that thanks to adobe flash lags in fullscreen.

  • I personally prefer Gentoo. Excellent distro. I used to use OpenSUSE but I had an issue when installing Python 2.6 and Python 3.11 in parallel. Gentoo's Portage allows a huge amount of flexibility, and I love the rolling releases.

  • Try Opera in Linux. It's far better than Firefox. There is Google Chrome now in Linux too. Opera is just excellent.

  • Try Open SUSE 11.1 it's very improved, it's very good on plug n play, if you have some older PC or laptop model it recognises everything. I have it installed on an Asus deluxe with a P4 at 3 GHz, 3 Gb of memory it just recognised every device and connected to the net immediately (via ethernet port). It's very fast in this machine. You can have many browser windows open, the connections are fast because the TCP-IP stack in Linux is better. It's not as fast at full screen flash videos (You Tube)

  • Open Suse THE BEST but it is very SLOW,but theres no virus

  • opensuse by far!

  • ....sounds like your computer is slow becuase of hardware I have Vista, and my laptop overheats alot but in Linux Mint 8 its barely even warming up... still in Vista things run fast. I have AMD Turion x2 processor, 4GB ram, 128MB shared NVIDIA.

Everything is fast for me in both Linux Mint and Vista... Opensuse is probably faster for u becuase it uses less resources and has lower requirments than Vista/Win7 does... Vista is a resource hog but with my system it runs fine and linux runs COOLER.

  • @Wolferine95 it's slow because you prolly have a shitty computer.
