Nada Dada Motel Reno, Nevada

Patty Atcheson Melton is showing her sketches of Reno motels dating from the late 1960's back... take a ride down old Highway 40 and check out these old gems that are slowly being taken over by the Mariotts, Motel 6's, Quality Inns and Holiday Inns. Patty along with other artists will be showing their works at the El Cortez Hotel and Town House Motor Lodge in Reno Nevada, June 18-21, 2009

Boy , am I getting old. I keep forgetting to tell you. They are not all Reno . The Tarry Motel( did not have -we speak german on the sign when we had it) & the Lariat Lodge we had are in Sparks . Must mention that town as it is very nice. The Tarry is appx 10 blocks west of John Ascuaga's Nugget and the Lariat 10 blocks East of it.

I made several comments as you can see below. Latest news.The Lariat Lodge(they call it Motel but not the original name) on 3rd & B st. in Sparks was on fire yesterday morning. They say kept to 1 room but from the looks of it I don't think so. A shame as it brings back some nice memories for myself and my 2 sons. My son went and took a picture and emailed it to me. It IS a shame that they have not kept them up. some of them are pretty bad. They weren't in the 60's and 70's when we had them.

@algerfrenchie Did you check out the video? It shows what I am doing for the Nada Dada Event. The Tarry is just one of about 15 old and run down motels I am drawing for the coloring book.

I am working on a coloring book of all the old motels on 4th Street. cleanning them up a bit as you can see. A group of us artists are participating in Nada Dada Motel.. go on YouTube to see what other artists are doing with Nada Dada.

I wrote the comment here 6 months ago. The only thing I don't understand is--NADA-DADA motel????? There was no such a motel here. If now, where is it. I'm curious. We knew all the owners around, so---????? Anyway I just emailed this to one of my sons. They grew up in both of the motels .Also, one on south Virginia , The Eldorado Motel.

You showed one of our motels we owned in the 70's. The Tarry motel on B st (now called Victorian Ave). The other was the Lariat Lodge motel on 3rd & B.Some of those you show are in Sparks and some are in Reno. Unfortunately they are old and have not been kept up.Only a few still look as they did then and rent by the month. It's a shame to see that.

Patty you are so very talented. I hope that you don't mind that I consider you a personal hero and mentor to me whether you realize it or not.

Maybe you have advice for me on finding my niche with modeling/photography in a style similar to Cindy Sherman as most of my stuff is self taught and shot due to my hearing.
