A video review of the Amazon Kindle DX Graphite ebook reader. This is Amazon's newest 9.7" ereader and it features new screen technology that increases contrast by 50%. The Kindle DX Graphite has free 3G that you can use to download books and surf web sites, built-in storage for up to 3,500 books and text-to-speech. The Kindle works with Amazon ebooks and PDF files but it does not work with ePub ebooks.

  • can you read manga on that thing?

  • @rbaleksandar Its not the same as shipping a video game without textures. The kindle is a reading device, its primary function is to render documents, not webpages, and it performs that function quite well. Also, just because it doesn't have the full functionality of a browser like chrome or IE doesn't mean its less secure. Bottom line, its a bonus feature; if you don't like it, don't use it. Like I said, its not amazing, but its there for people who don't want to mess around with mods.

  • @fatalcatler Even if it's experimental, it's wise to make it as complete as possible. It's the same as shipping a video game without textures, sounds etc. - just a plain engine, which is not usable by the gamer. And especially when it comes to internet-relevant applications, the more terrible the realization is, the worse security it has!

  • @rbaleksandar Its an experimental feature, what do you expect. Ive used it extensively and its not that bad. Sure there are better options but the average user probably isnt going to mod their kindle for it when they can use a pc or tablet to browse the net.

  • The web browser on Kindle is as worse as it can get. Better ship that thing without it. I just can't understand the point of making a new browser, when Kindle runs Linux and there are plenty of lightweight web browsers that can fit wonderfully on this machine. If they want to do something on their own (special security enhancements, shortcuts using Kindle's buttons etc.), there is still the possibility to fork an already free and open source project and add all this.
