  • It is very good record, but i think that it has been played a little bit faster than it must be.

  • Do you mean that the song is played faster or that the record is played with the wrong speed? To my mind it's an ideal tempo. Titta's voice isn't distorted, his high register is best shown in this song. So i think it's an original speed.

  • 1913?

I thought at that time they were no audio yet....

  • This one is a remastered recording transmitted from the gramophone disc. The history of sound recording began in 1880 when Thomas Edison invented a phonograph cylinder. Thanks to cylinder we can listen to voices of famous people of the past (Florence Nightingale, Sarah Bernhardt, Tchaikovsky and others). Gramophone discs make us familiar wth the great singers of the past. For example, Enrico Caruso's discography starts with 1902!

  • This is an excellent aria for Titta Ruffo. Thank you Eugenia.

  • I'm glad you love it too. I especially admire Titta's singing this song because together with intense dramatic temperament he was famous for, it teveals his lyrical talent.

  • @Delifine

I think this is running at pretty much the right speed.

It was written for and sung by Ruffo in the key of c# minor: the originally disc needs to be played at about 80rpm to pitch it correctly.

I have an original s/s pink-label German pressing of this September 1912 'creator' recording.

  • Unbelievable and unforgettable voice; thank you for uploading!!

  • Very, very nice performance.... THANK YOU!
