Hiking Yosemite's Ten Lakes Trail

Ten Lakes trail, in the backcountry of Yosemite, climbs 2,500 feet over the course of 6.5 miles of rugged terrain, then descends into the valley that nestles these remote lakes. The elevation rise is unrelenting, but the scenery is spectacular, ranging from thick pine forest, to rock shelves, marshy meadow, to steep climbs beside running falls.

Though we made the trip in late July, Yosemite's late snow this year left the streams running strong and the waterfalls at full force. In the higher elevations of the trail (above 8,000 feet) there was abundent snow, often obscuring the trail. Still the temperatures were mild and the skies clear throughout our 3 days in the park.

If you're considering a backpacking trip to Yosemite, don't think twice. Do it. You've got hundreds of miles of trail to choose from, and in the back country you won't see many other hikers along the way.
