A BBC documentary from 2003 (I think) looking at the problem of gang-related crime in black communities and the connnection with music (specifically Hip Hop & Garage). The sad thing is, six years later, the music hasn't got any more positive. If anything it's got worse - especially with the rise of Grime. More importantly, our young men and women are still fighting and killing eachother for 'control' of towns and cities, and our community leaders and conscious-types have not really stepped-up to provide credible and sustainable ideas on how to tackle these problems.

  • man i got g3

  • Now we can talk about the music all day. But the real problem is how in the world these guns have gotten into the hands of young people? You know they don't get them at the Gun shop. That's the question we should raise.

  • KIPIN IT WANKSTA

  • @Indiansuck786 And you're supposed to be Muslim? C'mon what does being racist behind a screen prove?

  • WTF I hate how these stupid crackers think rap is the course of the problems on the streets.

  • Scumbags. They talk about how dangerous guns are and as a result how dangerous their lives are but you can tell that they get a kick from it. Anyone who uses a gun to solve a dispute is a complete coward.

  • @ManoftheBeret Im assuming the "Bay area" is somewhere in the US?

I guess that Jamaican culture influences the US as well as the UK then.

  • @gamblemadman In the Bay Area people say "blood" without it having anything to do with the SoCal gang culture.

  • @Inlarocks They aint saying "blood" as in the American bloods and crips you fool. They're saying "blud" as in "bludclart", ... like the jamaicans say.

British youth street culture is influenced by the Jamaican immigrants that came to the UK in the 50's and 60's more than the American "L.A street gang" culture. Obviously they are also influenced by the US to a certain degree but no way as much as the Americans would like to think.

Urban UK music is also heavily unfluenced by jamaican culture
