  • i have 2 young ringnecks one is getting his black ring the other going through its first molt. how did you teach him mine are very frightened of me and bite and squwark if i go near there cage??? any advice??

  • Sorry for such a delay in the comments.

Aimzpet, your little birds are going to need a LOT of love and care. First things first, are their wings clipped? Some people, including myself, find it much easier to keep a bird calm if he's not freaking out and flying away. I myself have tamed a crazy wild bird and can tell you it helps a ton. Plus, the feathers grow back so if he's behaving himself next time around he can fly! Your birds dont trust you, give them small treats through the bars,

  • Talk to them when you're near them, birds are incredibly smart, they can get a lot from just the tone of your voice. If their wings are clipped, (and you dont have dogs, cats or children around) put their cage on the floor, let them come out and play with you sitting nearby.

This seemed to help for me, it took about 5 months to completely tame Atticus (my green 'was once wild' IRN) but with patience I believe you can do it.

  • and its been about 5 months since this post, so his tail is another 3-4 inches longer, he's had his first full molt and he looks great! will post new tricks soon, im trying to beat A.J. lol

  • hey eetmyfeet could you please tell me a few thing on my one molting

    -when will he molt

-will look like a big once he has, he currently looks like a little baby, no ring messy feather you know

  • Molting for my little man here happened at the second molt, which was in the spring of 2008. He is a bit bigger than he is here, he has his lovely ring in now. I don't think I have even mentioned his name, its Gilligan :D

  • i have a blue 2 months ringneck these parrots are very intelligent!

  • @TEHTROOPER111 the dark ring identifies a male. If yours doesn't develop the dark ring you probably have a female. Unless you have DNA tested the bird, don't be concerned about whether or not you see a dark ring. Depending on the colouring of your bird, on a female the ring can be difficult to spot.

  • aww he's so cute!! he learned that really fast! he's like tico! xD

  • aimzpet

your pet is not tame, look up taming your indian ringneck on google, if he is young he should be tame in 2 months, if he i older it may take longer
