Following an internet weather forecast promising
'abundant sunshine' hopes were high for a great day of filming at the East Lancs.BR steam weekend. Sadly the forecast was wrong (again) and we had a very grey day with foggy patches. The presence of steam of course, enlivens even the worst of days so it was still very enjoyable. The first scenes show WD 90733, on loan from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway performing a number of runpasts with the freight at Burrs. Other locomotives featured in the video are 61994
'The Great Marquess', Black Five 44871 and 47324.
Thanks to the ELR for a great, well organised Gala and especially for the early morning freight which allowed for far more footage than can be shown here.

  • Stunningly atmpospheric, filmed from interesting angles and inspiring locations. The still foggy weather enhances it superbly. Many thanks for sharing this Austin.

  • Thanks very much David, I have filmed so often at the Lancs down the years that it is difficult to find a new viewpoint. The conditions did help the overall atmosphere.

  • Great selection of clips Austin, I'm surprised we managed to avoid one another... haha.

    See you around.

    Si

  • Thanks Si, yeah, I'm sure we'll bump into each other again soon.

  • I do agree with the comments above about the weather. I think it adds that touch of authenticity, particularly the opening shot with the WD on goods with the mill chimney in the background.

  • Very true, although I would have liked a little more brightness you can only film in the available conditions

  • Thanks very much, whilst I would have liked a spot of sunshine, in the end, the conditions added to the atmosphere I think.

  • Thanks very much Bob, of course I don't really remember those old days myself....o.k. tongue is now coming out of cheek!!

  • I can only agree with all the previous comments Austin, a beautifully atmospheric set of sequences that are enhanced by such weather conditions that us older lads remember so well from the good old days of steam...5*....Bob

  • That is a fantastic video you got there, the foggy day certainly set the mood for a great day's filming, brilliant 5*.........John.
