Overview and quick tour of a 12 volt electrical system I set up in my room. The battery is being charged using the wall outlet as of now.

UPDATE:
See "12 Volt Room II" for my updated system with new batteries and charge controller.

I eventually plan to have a solar panel for charging the battery and powering my stuff.

  • Cig socket taped to the wall ? Have you thought about a fire extinguisher ?

  • It does not get 'THAT' hot. I don't even heat up the cigarette lighter thing; it just acts as a power outlet.

  • there is a way of thinking we have in the electrics field we say if it can be used as one then its a hazard weather it is used or not see some ppl could see it and go oo lighter and it could (not will) but runs the risk of a possible fire, take no chances play it safe

  • I just reached over an pushed the lighter in. It took maybe about 10 seconds to heat up and pop out. The lighter socket itself barely even got warm to the touch.

I can also note that the back of this particular socket is ceramic and sealed off. There's nothing exposed on the back.

  • Also, where did you get it? And how much did it cost? Thanks!

  • I ordered it from the invertersRus website. It cost me about $140 at the time I bought it. It works pretty well but does buzz a little bit if you put a lot of load on it.

  • Great video man, its a shame how we get ripped from the electric companies when the technology exist to reduce our consumption a great deal.

  • how many watts is your panel

  • i bet you do

  • Only needed in America!! not in the UK cause we are a developed country and have an infrastructure that works... :)

  • cool, we are doing the same thing in Coastal US for the next hurricane/power outage. Would like to run a mini-fridge for 1 week. We have 3 (so far) deep cycle walmart boat batteries

  • You should use SLA marine or UPS patteries. Higher AHR :)

  • Not if they are SLA like he's using in the video. They are safe :)

  • great setup & nice for running car amps & subs in your room! 12v heater would be cool too. perfect for power cuts :D

  • hehe good Job! eh how ever you for got to mention one tiny thing..Whats the watage rating of that power suply, it Looks like atleast a 1kv or 1,ooo Wats.

I jsut also waould like to state that the ingerters range from 200 to 1,000 wats and I heard even 2,0000 wats are acailiable for a pretty penny. another thing to note, with more batteries connect them in parele circut and gives a time limit on how long they run..also for your cooking need use a conduction oven and or stove
