What was the most stressful part of the counseling experience?
The most stressful part of the counseling experience was that I did not know what to say. I felt as if I knew the technique, but I was a bit nervous when it came to asking the questions. I am sure that I over exaggerated and under exaggerated in some parts. But I know and have come to realize that these assignments aren't meant for perfection they're meant for the lesson learned and to gain experience and insight.

What did you find most natural in the process?
I think that talking and listening was the most natural in the process. I felt confident know if I were really in the circumstance that I could help a client.

What is your overall response to being a counselor now?

I feel as if I was called to this degree and using my skills learned in helping others. I feel a little better know what to expect, awkwardness and all and I know that I am still really uneasy about it all, however, I know that it takes longer to gain all skills to be an effective counselor. So, I am not going to let any of my doubts stray me from the subject just yet.

  • Thanks to everyone for your advice. I believe everyone is right about the notes. This is a basic beginers class. I hope to get better and more comfortable as time goes one. Hopefully things will seem more real when I know there is no cam on me and I'm not being graded. I loved this class, I had a blast.

  • You did a good job by offering other alternatives (i.e. cognitions/perspectives)....also you had great listening skills (paraphrasing and summarizing) . Be mindful that it is ok to have the client assist you with this task....a phrase I like to use is...."so what i heard say...."

  • @casey8182

lol @ good pick up about 'pain in the neck'

  • Some counselors do take notes. Generally people think of counselors taking notes. It's almost expected. Notes can be helpful for the counselor and the client so that no topic being discussed are forgotten and in the next session the topics can be talked about. Good job.

  • I thought you did a great job. I am about to undertake a level 3 counselling skills course and I often worry about the silence and trying to keep the client leading the session.

  • Why are you taking notes? ur not ment to do that......... your client has not got 100% autonomy! 3.17 do you not notice your client is signaling your a pain in the neck? 3.32 you are now getting in his hair with ur note takin! your also holding your pad up as you have something to had from him? bad practice! cant watch anymore!
