There are too many people out there that go out for teaching because they just want an easy job with tenure. Hire people who ENJOY teaching and want to be there. If you are doing your job, you do not need tenure. Get rid of your teacher union. Stop saying more money will fix the problem because it has already been proven that it does not.
Just like in the private sector, competition would make teachers do their job better.
Don't be scared of punishing a student(s) who is part of a minority.

Most of the time those pills don't do anything useful. Why? BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T NEED THEM!! They made a descision to do CRAP work. They should be honest with themselves, but first people need to be honest with THEM.

Besides, the work they are given doesn't do crap for you if you want to get into college. I shudder to think of the day when college becomes easier.... We need to stop celebrating mediocrity to make students feel better about themselves. If they are doing crappy, they should be told THEY ARE DOING CRAPPY, instead of loading them up on HDD or ADHDD prescriptions.

I find that many schools give you the easiest work ever, and a lot of it, so that they can feel like they are coming to standard when students can pass. Even then though, EVEN THEN students fail!!! THIS IS BAAAAAD!!!

I tell them what I have to do, and they reply by saying they would have no idea where to begin. And I live in Seattle, Washington, which is supposed to have good education. I think that my school should be the norm for education.

They can tell you about what has happened to them in their life, they can tell you stories that make sense, etc. AND, they give you projects and work that isn't a bunch of twaddle. I see all my friends with this rediculously easy work complaining about it, and

My highschool, for the most part seems to be quite good at discipline, and discouraging cheating, and being real. Now granted, my school is rare, but pretty much everyone there has at least a 3.0 or something close. If you start doing bad, you are basically asked to go to a different school. I can tell that my teachers have been in the real world.

I support you hzardus.

I believe teachers should teach and do all they can BUT if the student doesnt do the homework or skips class that teacher should be exempt from any judgement from their peers or mandates. Parents are responsible to see to it that their child does the work. The teacher is only responsible to teach and accountability belongs to that effort alone. ~Raven
Children need to be able to think for more themselves at times (to be more independent and creative). Instead of just being sheep.
I think discipline is one of the cornerstones, bring back capital punishment (spanking) in elementary school. It can sometimes correct a student's behavior and serve as an example to the rest. It's hard for a teacher to do their work, if the students are not properly disciplined.

Stop blaming everything on a learning disability or mental problems. Sure those problems exist, however there is an over emphasis on treating with pills, like Ritalin. Often the root of the problem, is discipline or and motivation. (Spoiled rotten brats).
