@BBEEAANN1 Don't overestimate what the DAS does - it is no 4Pi IRST, rather a more accurate missile warning system. It does not make the missiles fly better. You still need to fly the aircraft into the proper position for launch or the missile will easily miss.

But even that primitive TVC of the X-31 costs serious money and adds to FCS complexity. Not good if you want the F-35 to be an economic workhorse.

@PinoMassiso This is the mid-air collision between the F-104 and XB-70 I'm talking about, the F-104 pilot was killed and so was the XB-70 co-pilot; the main pilot survived, but only with serious injuries.

@xero993 No one died the guy bailed out prematurely because his instruments gave out. It was later found out he could have still recovered the plane
