  • @dogdok SM57s and SM58s are actually identical, except for the cage on the end. the globe on the SM58 makes for more open and full-directional sound opportunities, while the SM57 is still dynamic, but works best (and has a more easily manipulated sound when moved) when pointed directly at the sound. the SM57 is used as a vocal or instrument mic by thousands around the world, so it's not even close to difficult to get a great sound out of a 58 in a variety of applications.
