The Soldiers of the 56th Stryker Brigade's 108th Field Artillery fire their new gun, the M777A2 howitzer. The 108th is the first National Guard unit to fire the weapon, which is said to have an accuracy of up to 10 meters at a distance of 30 kilometers when using the M982 Excalibur GPS-guided projectile.

The 56th Stryker Brigade, the National Guard's only such brigade, is scheduled to mobilize in September in preparation for deployment to Iraq in early 2009.

  • hooah 1/108th awesome

  • "the fielding for the m777 which is just to familiarize your self"

That just makes the time that much sweeter.

    "not called rto anymore"

Sorry for the mistake. I retired 6 years ago.

"And at least 108th FA will listen to my FiSTers when they call 'check-fire' and instead of sending rounds down range with the incorrect FDC computations"

If the FDC are doing they're job in the first place, you don't have to call check fire ;)

"rather have the 108th fire "

I know I miss shooting with them.

  • @ThePanzerblitzer All you need to remind baghdadghost as for proformance is one unit...the deuce deuce.

And at least 108th FA will listen to my FiSTers when they call 'check-fire' and instead of sending rounds down range with the incorrect FDC computations. Just saying, rather have the 108th fire for the 56th.

Just a friendly message from the Sixteenth Pennsylvania.

  • And to the guy below me if is not called rto anymore I believe it is called atc(ammo team chief).

  • Let me say that being a 13 bravo you have to qual before you can begin to fire and after you do so you must first shoot for safe and yes it is just training .safety is always first good job this was the fielding for the m777 which is just to fimilarize your self with the wepon good job fellas hooah

  • @baghdadghost

It took the RTO 10 seconds to relay the firing data. First round was fired 21 seconds later. 2nd round 25 seconds after that. Let me help you with the math. That's 2 rounds in under a minute, not 2.

They did that with only 2 days of training a month (compare to the 20+ days per month active-duty receive).

Tomorrow those boys will be back at their full-time careers. Plumbers, cooks, truck-drivers, sales people, teachers, welders, etc.

National Guard - the true citizen-soldiers.

  • @baghdadghost look here ass clown, it was a section test an there was NO cutting corners here. it was a race against all 6 sections following ALL army regs to fire the weapon. u best trust an believe we get 3 done in 15secs. get ur weight up son.
