How do you know that all these doctrines: God is angry, thru faith alone, sinful nature, fire & brimstone, aren't just ways to manipulate citizens into doing what the priests tell them to?

Would you torture anyone? I don't think you would. So what makes you think that an all-loving being, who can do whatever he wants, would, when he already doesn't want to & no one can hold him to it?
