JIMMY JAMES as Marilyn Monroe live @ Don Hill's NYC ('96)

One of the last Performances of Jimmy James performing as Marilyn Monroe. The choice of this song Led Zepplin's "Stairway To Heaven" is ironic and poetic with such lyrics being sung by 'Marilyn Monroe.' This was shot at the famous Don Hill's Rock & Roll club in New York City for the Friday night partys called "Squeezebox." The Squeeze Box nights ran for 10 years. This is a rare video. 1996.

Jimmy James never liked to divert from songs that were out of character for Marilyn, but he was convinced to do this number by the promoter Michael Schmidt who was a long-time friend. James himself later came to see the irony of it all especially given the lyrical content and the fact that he was approaching the end of his "Marilyn Years." Soon after this he would move on to begin work on his own recording career. By 1998 his first release was a song called "Who Wants To Be Your Lover." He retired from performing as Marilyn Monroe in 1997.
Currently his hit "FASHIONISTA" (which he wrote and sang) has been heard all over the world.

Thanks Everybody! I was nervous as hell doing this. I wanted to back out at the last minute. I almost did. I have friends holding Q-cards with the lyrics. Even though I rehearsed the song a lot at my apartment, I only was able to rehearse it a couple of times with the band. I think I almost started singing too soon. So much could have gone wrong on this ONE take taping. May we all remember Mr. Don Hill for giving so many of us a platform to perform. Love u Don.
