A look at the problem of the UK's education system. One problem is how many lefties there are, and how much lefty brainwashing there is in schools, instead of teaching facts.

Recorded from The Daily Politics, 17 November 2010.

  • The whole concept of state education needs a rethink. Children put through 4 years of French come out at the end of it not able to speak French, yet when they study Japanese by themselves they're watching untranslated Japanese Anime within the month.

State education is mostly a waste of time.

  • @ToaJoe

There is NO excuse for bad behavior you twat! it's that kind of touchy-feely mindset that leads MANY MORE children education to be destroyed because bad behaved children are allowed to go rampant! due to Leftie PC bullshit.

LOL what a pathetic response. It's true "leftie" teaching has meant 1 in 3 children under 11 can't read or write properly and the only way Labour managed to increase result success was by dumbing down yet the stats are still LOW.

  • this is not only something that's going on in Britain, this sounds pretty much like what's going on here in Colombia, and actually many countries in the world :/

  • @mrrjerix Bring back the cane! looool

  • we always said the system is broken but they never do a major change just a last minutes change in gcse tests or see a kid with grade F in Maths English Science or more and still pass them and not working towards their improvements, mixing disruptive kids with learning difficulties (kick out the disruptive because they know nothing going to happen and they're always the same kids not the odd one or two) I like the grade of american system get grade w.e in x amount of lessons to pass.

  • Education needs a ZERO TOLLERENCE POLICY! SIT DOWN, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STUDY! and if you don't do as the teacher says, you will get expelled. THATS IT! SIMPLE! The school will phone the parents to come and pick up the child and tell them to fuck off. School must become only for the cream of the crop. Only for those that want to learn and only for parents that want to be part of it. The others can stay home, work around the house and waste away. That is the only thing that will work.

  • If we look at state schools, this stupid system of "predicted" grades are really letting pupils down. They look at those who are D - C standard and when the pupils look at it, they think, well, the school is saying this is what I am capable of - a D Grade and I really push myself I may obtain a C Grade. Teachers should be encouraging them to push towards an A Grade standard. Instead of focusing on A - A* students, teachers should be focused on those who are not "predicted" to obtain GCSE's.

  • The pupils behaviour is caused by influence. Its simple, if you look at a child at the age before they enter Year 8 - 9 l they are so innocent. Yes maturity takes over, they try smoking they try drinking they socialise they adapt to society. They also adapt to school life. Grammar Schools contain strict, very good education. The pupils who come away from Grammar schools are the ones who are likely to obtain a degree at University.

  • @Lilia1992 they were socialist but CHAMPAGNE SOCIALISTS.
