The Doctor Returns - Alt. Ending (Journey's End)

***SPOILERS FOR SERIES 4***

In the end with the Doctor's soul revealed he has to make a choice. Does he change his ways or will he remain the same lonely and broken god?

Short and sweet. I was touched by this incredibly insightful livejournal regarding JEnd:
"We wanted to travel with him (the Doctor)...be him. Now, he's become a lone vigilante...one step above the monsters he fights...holding out his hand to the villains, while turning a cold shoulder to the people who love him. He leaves broken, sad people in his wake. Yes, he is still motivated by love...he still cares for the ones he leaves behind...but not enough to listen to them. He is trying to do the right thing...as he sees it. So we have to believe that he knows best...some of us do." - Rabid1st

It may be a bit hard to understand with echoes and such so here is a list of voice overs:

"He never raised his voice, that was the worst thing. The fury of the Timelord and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor who had fought gods and demons why he would run away from us and hidden...He was being kind" - Son of the Family

"What exactly do you do for him? Why does he need you?" - John Smith

"Because he's lonely." - Martha

"And that's what you want me to become?" - John Smith

"Falling in love, that didn't even occur to him?....What sort of a man is that?" - John Smith

"I'm so sorry." - Doctor

"I know." - Rose

I didn't like the end of the finale, not necessarily because it is the last we see of Rose but there was no hope. Rose was taken back and left with a man she was still unsure about, she loved her doctor and there was still no closure between the two because we saw he was painfully hurt (by the kiss). Donna, well that was just plain awful, she was crying, begging and pleading to him not to. She would have rather died than return to being 'ordinary' when she finally believed she was special. The doctor was alone in the end, lover gone best friend erased and nothing left for him to hope for. Very depressing.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!! I was heartsick for days after JE for the same reasons a lot of folks were/are. He has this complex that in the end is very selfish though he thinks he's being selfless. I'm not exactly for Rose staying, but why bring her back to the show for a tiny bit if THAT is where we leave her?

it now says donna is returning again with rose so she is abck and this time powerful. i was nearlyer crying at the end of JE because of rose and the dooctor

Agreed, the way it ended was horrible (hence my own "some what" patch-up with this video). Rose would never just give up, her one true passion was being his counter-part. 10.2 doesn't need saving. He is part human, better at understanding and relating to the human race in ways 10 cannot. 10 is the one that is lonely, the one that once needed saving after so much turmoil with the destruction of his race. I firmly believe he needs Rose again. After the X-mas special, who knows what will happen?

I was yelling at the screen at the end of JE because A) the fact that Rose fought that hard to save him and be with him, she wouldn't let him go that easy, since she ran after the TARDIS too B) No matter what people say, 10.5 isn't the Doctor- whatever happened to his having Donna's mouth and feelings? C) The Doc himself said 10.5 had too much blood on his hands; how does that make him better for Rose? It all doesn't add up.
