@RickinIsh2 With the exception of the A-10, which isn't considered a fighter, aircraft such as the F-15, 16, 117 and countless others, are not designed to take hostile fire and absorb it. They have countermeasures to attempt to avoid or mislead enemy fire and out maneuver enemy aircraft in a dogfight. Jet engines are very sensitive to foreign objects such as large birds and large debris.

@RickinIsh2 Mother Nature always wins.

F16s are designed to fly over hostile skies, take hostile fire from AA flak guns, small arms, and other fighter jets, but dont have a good way to stop a bird from making a stew of himself through an engine?

They use it to indicate that there is a problem and that their training scenario is suspended in order to try to fix the problem.
