At Big Cat Rescue we often try to help others understand why the cat populations are going down in places like Asia and Africa. We sometime forget that this is happening in our own backyard. Take a look at the current situation of the Florida Panther. Even though their numbers are slightly higher than reported in the 1980's after decades of over hunting there are more killed on the roads than ever before.
In 2006 we had 11 endangered panthers killed by vehicles.
And in 2007 we have 15 so far. The total population is only 80-100 left.
*you will hear Brian say 14 twice in the video as in the time it took from filming to producing another cat was killed)
What will be the future of these predators here in Florida?
The police trying to ticket speeders and the few protected fenced roadways can only do so much. It is up to us to decide if we really will change the way we use up land and resources to allow room for these beautiful predators.
Thanks for watching.

  • Im a artist and wish to paint the Florida Panther where can I get nice pics to view thier stance Thank you 4th generation Floridian,Jesse Davis

  • @Rileysport1 You could try our website BigCatRescue*org ??

  • Florida Panthers are not Pumas! Cougars are Pumas, also called Mountain Lions, Mexican Lions in Mexico, but Florida Panthers are similar, just live in a different environment, and eat most of the time eat different foods which may differ their size from those of the west and northwest.

  • cougar/puma/panther/mountain lion, they're all the same animal, but as you said they have just adapted to different environments and vary in size/color etc...

  • Florida is overdeveloped. People got greedy and wanted their own slice. That's what happens when you live in an ownership society though. Instead of building communities, we sprawl around and drive SUVs while burning tons of gas and polluting our earth.

  • Very true, too many people on this planet.

  • why did david adams in troup georgia only get a $2000 fine and 2 years probation? maby he should got an eye for an eye.

  • oh no

how will the panthers win a stanley cup now

  • if people in my environmental law program think that there are plenty of panthers and there is too much of a fuss about their protection than I know we have problems.... dumb assholes come to this beautiful state, reshape the laws, take the resources, pollute, and turn everybody into tenants and service workers.... i'm tired of it.

  • I likr poop

  • there is a show on tv and they kill crocs i feel sorry for them and next thing you know panthers will be on the list :(

  • they should put some really tall fences

  • Big cats have no place to go. Soon it will happens with humans too. We will auto- suicide.

  • I live in Miami and its a shame to see such a beautiful animal in so much danger... I don't thinks its Floridians who are 100% at fault. I think its mostly big corporations who are expanding down south and destroying these animal's habitats. I do think however, that its our responsibility to stop this expansion and just say NO. But most Floridians don't take that initiative. Including myself... :(

  • this reminds me of a shirt i saw once with a florida panther in th emiddle of a road sitting there with th ewords "should i stay or should i go" its very sad so many people overlook this beautiful animal or just plane dont care abotu them!!

  • @LeftLiberalSoCal Left Liberal..... It wouldn't be so overpopulated if we didn't allow illegal immigration!! And anchor babies !! That's where your so screwed up with your liberal bullshit !! The funny thing is..... it's the hunters and right wingers that are responsible for trying to save our natural habitats in many of our states. National turkey hunting federation and many others.
