A quick (and shaky) video montage of a recent snow storm in Truckee, California, just 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe. The storm that day easily dropped six inches, and compacted the previous night's snowfall of six inches. Not a whole lot of snow for a Sierra storm, but relatively normal for my neighborhood, Glenshire.

The music split between my narration is an excerpt from "Minor Waltz" by the Asylum Street Spankers, from their 2002 album "My Favorite Record."

  • Hi Plutonium9: Yes, statistically Donner Lake and Truckee receive more snow than Glenshire. Though still technically part of Truckee, Glenshire is about 5 miles east, and is known as the "banana belt". We get about half the snow that Truckee/Donner Lake get. For a comparison, our winter lasted from November 2010-June 2011. In May, in Glenshire, I had grass poking up. In Donner Lake, there was still about three feet of snow. Depending on your income, living up here can be difficult. Good luck.

  • You mentioned being glad you don't live near Donner Lake. Does it snow more there? Only curious because I love the region and would like to move there some day.
