Frank Zappa Interview on The Dick Cavett Show 1971

Frank does his first interview on the Dick Cavett Show on January 11th 1971, where he talks about his music, his upcoming movie release at that time, 200 motels and he also talks about the John Lennon interaction. And I believe this was the first time the mothers played the song sofa, publicly, which was to be released later on the 1975 album, One Size Fits All.

@vanjealous cont. - Most of the hosts don't know anything about rock 'n roll. They have research departments and secretaries that go out and hand the host a sheet of paper that says he does this or that. But they still don't know anything. So it's never an in-depth interview.

Zappa: It was pretty crummy, actually. He didn't have any good questions. He was afraid to talk to me. He was just nothing. Nothing! He didn't know anything. He had never heard me before. There was just nothing to talk about. That's the trouble with the talk shows you go on.

Thanks for posting, but if it hasn't already been posted, this broadcast is from November 1971, not January as stated. It was one of the last gigs before the Mothers went back to

Europe for the ill-fated tour that lead up to the Montreux fire (Smoke on The Water) and

the London Rainbow episode wherein Frank was pushed from the stage by an irate fan; leaving Frank in a wheelchair for several months with severe damage to his leg, back and laryx (resulting in his voice dropping a 1/3 in pitch).
