An accidental mouse click brought me to this page. As the audio began, I thought to myself, 'I know that song.' It was in my opinion, Nancy Sinatra's only truly great song, 'Lightning's Girl.'
It was credited to be written and produced in 1967 (9 years after the release of 'Rumble;') by Lee Hazlewood (who of was partnered with Duane Eddy in the 1950's.)
Production is classic Hazlewood, but the song is clearly Link Wray.
Was there any litigation, or deals were made with Wray?
R.I.P Link.

A "rumble" was a teenage gang fight in 1950's American English. Think black leather jackets, Elvis haircuts and beehive hair-do's

@The1970sInfatuate Official sources say so.

It was banned by the BBC which WAS radio in the UK until the mid 60's.Meek's instro was banned for the horror SFX (!)and Rumble for the "gang violence"connotation.So many records got banned by the BBC that they have already filled two triple-CD sets !

@Starrman1992 Along with The Night of the Vampire by the Moontrekkers (produced by Joe Meek).

only instrumental ever banned on the radio

Yea man :) .
I don't why people say this was banned on the radio, I remember when this record came out every radio station was playing it. Even Dick Clark played the hell out of it on American Bandstand. So where was it banned???

@hxo20292 I don't know. Everyone who's been saying that must be too young to know. They probably weren't born before 1958 when this song was released. It doesn't make sense why this song would be banned. It's an instrumental for fuck sake.
