The original trailer for the Disney movie 'The Black Hole'. In some ways the last of the old style effects movies and 'Studio' movies - this was created during Disney's "Black" period, but the FX work is both ambitious and at times very effective. Enjoy!

I like old movies like this, but if you can't appreciate the new "CGI crap" as you so eloquently put it, then you are just as blind as you accuse the younger gen of being that cannot appreciate the old hokey stuff. Quit being such a damn hypocrite.

One of my favorite films of all time, on a completely different level for Disney and I think that's part of why I like it so much. It has such a dark feel throughout the movie, it feels very unique to me. Plus, IMHO it has one of the coolest movie villains of all time: Maximilian. :)

"A" for effort though

Which movies in your opinion are best? Jaws or Deep blue sea?

John Carpenter's The Thing or the new prequel?

I watched new movies where the c,g,i is amazing but it still don't look real to me. Even though prosthetics look like bits of rubber, the bits of rubber are real and look real because they exist. I think a combination of c.g.i and something real works best for me personally. Its a shame that it cant be used for huge on-screen creatures. C,G,I, is totally overused now. Even in car chases

CGI is lazyness? Do you know how many thousands of hours they spent creating CGI?

CGI already won because it objectively looks more real and almost everyone likes it. Except you party poopers still clinging to nostalgia and shitty sci fi with guys running around in costumes.

I think Deep Blue Sea was early CGI but still looked better than Jaws. Jaws looks stiff in comparison. Too stiff and mechanical, not fluid and really animated.

Even though rubber is "there" in the scene it still looks faker to me than CGI. And newer CGI just destroys all kinds of prosthetic. check out the chimeras in wrath of the titans.

I was referring to the fact that the cgi "ages" on film after a while, and it makes the movie look really fake, unless you watch it on DVD of course, but on film it ages.

I think Independence Day still looks pretty good actually. The movie drags on too long at the end and wrecks it for me, but I like the beginning and middle still. Transformers- the first one, and Avatar are NOT going to look "silly" ever, as far as visual effects go. They are classics that took many, many people with tons of talent a lot of time to create. Besides, Megan Fox will always look amazing in Transformers.
