Can you lift a 5-pound block of ice with your jaw? If you were a spotted hyena, like Kubwa and Kidogo, itd be no problem. Their jaws can easily crush the bones of a prey animal in the wild. At the zoo, they use them to chomp through meat-cicles on warm summer days.

  • I see. The Hyenas are new. I'll go see them this week. What about the Nyala's on the African Plains though? I have personally seen Hyenas eat live Impala in the bush.

  • We have three Nyala fawns on the African Plains! Yet another reason to swing by the zoo this summer!

  • Wait a minute. Since when are there Hyenas at the Bronx Zoo? Heck, I go back with the zoo so long I remember Komodo Dragons in the reptile house but not Hyenas. Are they new arrivals? (Leave the Cape Hunting Dogs alone!)

  • Yes! The Bronx now is exhibiting 2 Hyenas. They're on exhibit pretty much everyday.

  • I love this video! It has no distractions, it just shows the animals - that's what zoos are all about.

    And I can't wait to visit the Bronx Zoo and see these hyenas.

  • Thanks! When you visit, come early (before 11 AM) as our hyenas like to sleep alot during the afternoon.

  • ever since i saw lion king... i just always see hyenas as assholes...

  • Nice video! I really like the fact that you are providing the hyenas with enrichment! =D

    I hope you don't mind me asking, but what is the size of their enclosure? I'm really interested in zoology, architecture, and exhibit sizes, so I ask this question when I can. ^^;

  • Conservation Supporter for years here. I go to the zoo ALL the time, sometimes just for coffee :-)

  • Praises to the WCS and its dedication not only for its exibits and animal habitat conservation but for also educating the people as well!...

  • I always leave Philadelphia early to arrive at the Zoo at opening time, so that won't be a problem.

    I am commenting here from my other channel (ZooVisitorMM2). I don't have videos from the Bronx Zoo yet because I haven't been there since I bought my video camera, but I hope to come there soon!
