A Regimental Sergeant Major instructs a private in correct saluting procedure. Brilliant performance by Richard Attenborough in the 1964 film Guns at Batasi.

I was in the Army from 1989 - 96 & 2 years TA service , back then you got slaps from the NCO's if you f****ed up. My first CSM was SAS trained , I started with the RAMC.

  • @KEVWARD63 thanks for info, mate:) are you an active serviceman/-woman??

  • @TurboRatownik

WO1's normally wear Officer pattern Service Dress with the Sam Browne cross shoulder belt ,as Sir Dickie is wearing , WO2's wear a sash if they have passed the All Arms Drill Instructor course ,normally a slightly better quality sash than Sgt / SSgt issue.

  • @seamuswrestler Jealous? :-)

  • Ah, RSMs being RSMs - now outside the teeth arms, ostensibly they represent the top of the soldier tree, but are reduced to being staff pukes following the Col, or as 'Cap Badge' Branch RSMs, some General or another - just an American inspired sop to them. There's no real role for them here; they know it and don't like it. We need RSMs not more staff pukes!

Typical of the modern age; find something which ain't broke; break it anyway in the name of progress!

  • Bah! Typical jumped up Pommy RSM! :P
