The circles are crystallographic images: cancer-related proteins crystallized and then photographed. Understanding the protein images requires quite a bit of processing on a computer, and we're talking about many millions of images - hence, the unique opportunity afforded by distributed computing.

Can you please explain to me the significance of those circles that appear as the percentage increases? The other WCG projects show you protein molecules as graphics, but I still can't figure out what those circles mean...
