President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, with the official Philippine delegation, arrived past noon at Hua Hin Airport to join in the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The gathering is to be held from October 23 to 25 at the royal seaside resorts of Cha-am in Petchaburi Province and Hua Hin in Prachuap khiri khan,Thailand.
Thai government officials together with Philippine Ambassador Antonio Rodriguez and embassy officials, welcomed the president.
The ten leaders and six dialogue partners of the three-day ASEAN summit and related meetings are expected to sign and adopt several documents and declarations, including the creation of an ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, the Cha-am-Hua Hin Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation on Education to Achieve an ASEAN Caring and
Sharing Community, the ASEAN Declaration on Climate Change and the ASEAN leaders statement on ASEAN connectivity.
President Arroyo is also set to hold bilateral meetings with Japan, New Zealand and Australia in the sidelines of the summit.
