  • I have 2 studio monitors (very nice speakers) hooked up to my computer and the difference from listening to CD's vs MP3's is astounding. MP3's just sound so tiny, there is no punch to the music, the bass is lower, and all of the sounds themselves aren't as rich. Do an experiment for yourself and really listen and you will see there is a huge difference in the quality. I think IPODS are pretty cool and I minimize the quality loss by having ALL my MP3's at 320kbps. The worst is having 128kbps

  • @scrubbycritter And CD is still just 16 bit / 44,1 kHz digital sound. And usualy bastardized by loudness war. Search for it on youtube, if u didn't hear about it yet. For people who really cares about sound, CD is the minimum acceptable quality. That's why Steven releases his album on vinyls or in 5.1 DVD-Audio format - which is really mindblowing... especially surround recordings of In Absentia, Deadwing, FOABP and Insurgentes.

  • @scrubbycritter ...some older albums were later remixed into 5.1 too, but since it's just upmix from the original stereo master, it doesn't sound very different compared to classic CD.

  • I would just love to sit down for a couple hours and just talk to him

  • Agree, but after all you can't take your record player wherever you want... which for me is one of the points of music... experience it in various places, not only your living room...

  • is there a link to this complete interview somewhere?

  • Not everyone's an audiophile.

  • Since people seem to be talking about it. I've just stopped buying CD's and buy vinyl instead (if I can get the record I want on vinyl, otherwise it's still CD). I rip my CD's to my computer in ALAC. It's really nice when some vinyls comes with a download-card 'cus imo it can be nice listening to your iPod on the buss etc. More of these downloads should be done so you can choose your format (like on Bandcamp for isntance) instead of just mp3's. At least they could come in aac or something...

  • @trumpetswim10 me too.

  • To bad i'm listening to you on an iPod then, i can't carry around a turningtable, can i?

  • so.... WHY IS THERE A STUPID STEVEN WILSON AP???

  • Where is this from?

  • @SuperGorak Yes I would have to agree with you vinyl is the bet way to go because it is analog which has smoother sound, while digital can "clip" the waves forming squares.

  • When I'm listening to my iPod I usually don't care for a that great quality of sound (yet I have some minimum standards). But I can't sit still and listen to music when I'm listening to a CD/Mp3. Only a Vinyl Disc can deliver a full experience

  • @muraliavarma well, that means a lot to me. I just saw my other comment and I've made silly mistakes. I hate google translate but I have to say that sometimes is quite useful. thanks for your time :)
