Since when could he tell me what to do?
Demi: Why the hell not?
Joe: Please dont be angry with me.
Demi: Let me guess—
Joe: Its all for the best.
Demi: And that kiss helped this situation? (Of course not)
Joe: Im dangerously attracted to you, (He leaned in closer) and thats not a very good thing.
Demi: (I held my breath) Why not?
Joe: (Backing away) I need to go.
Demi: Wait, dont . . .
Joe: But I must. I cant fall for you any harder than I already have, even if I believe Ive already hit the concrete on this one. (He smiled a little) I really do like you a lot. Maybe even love you . . .
Demi: Why cant it keep going? I like you too. It just doesnt seem fair . . . (I looked into his eyes)
Joe: Im so sorry. (He touched his hand to my hair)
Demi: Why?
Joe: Why what? (Like he doesnt know . . .)
Demi: Why cant we be together as friends or even more than friends?
Joe: (Sighing) I-I dont . . . I cant . . . (He turned away from me)
Demi: What are you hiding? (He looked into my eyes)
Joe: Can you keep a secret?
Demi: Is it really a secret this time?
Joe: (Laughing sharply) Yes. A deep dark, never-to-be-told, secret.
Demi: Then I can keep it. (I bit my lip)
Joe: (Breathing in heavily) I can only tell you something you may or may not believe . . .
Im a vampire.
My heart set in as I focused on his face for any hint of humor. None.
My breathing stopped and I slowly backed away and tried my best to secretly cover my neck with my hair. The first thing that came to my mind was their thirst for human blood. My heart began to race.
Joe: Demi, I wont hurt you. (He grabbed my hand) I dont want to hurt you and I never will. Are you afraid?
I eased up a bit but the answer was yes. I was scared.
Joe: Oh Demi, please dont be afraid of me. (He pulled me in and I tensed up in his arms) Calm down, I wouldnt dare hurt you.
Demi: (Once he let go) Are you like Edward Cullen?
Joe: Im so much better looking than him. (He made me smile and I blushed slightly)
Demi: How are you able to control yourself so well around people? Dont you just wanna bite their necks and suck them dry? (I took his hand and held it in mine, tracing the lines.)
Joe: Ive got amazing self control compared to the rest of my family. I dont want to pounce on everyones neck. (He smiled and I grimaced imagining him sucking the blood from every single person in the cafeteria.)
Demi: So your family . . .
Joe: Are the same as me. And just to clear the air, we dont sleep in coffins.
Demi: Good, that was my next question . . . (This was so surreal.)
Joe: You must not tell a soul. Of course my family will find out eventually though.
Demi: Not if you dont tell . . .
Joe: Actually, Miley and Selena can read minds . . . (He raised an eyebrow)
Demi: Cool . . . wait Miley? (My eyes widen and he nods) Do you know how many bad things Ive thought about her? (He laughed)
Joe: (Grabbing my hands) I want you in my life.
Demi: Good, I want to be in it.
Joe: But, its a very dangerous life I live.
Demi: Just call me danger. (He smiled)
Joe: Whatever happens, if I ever hurt you, I wouldnt be able to live with myself.
Demi: Are you alive at all? (He smiled and showed all teeth) And why dont you have fangs?
Joe: (He kissed me softly and my mouth ran wintry) I have been waiting for you my whole life.
Demi: How long is that now? (I bit my lip)
Joe: 312 years . . .
Demi: Wow, thats weird.
Joe: Youll get used to it.
He stayed the night and I slept in his arms even though he was cold. Slowly I fell asleep, but when I dreamt my usual dream, he wasnt kissing my neck . . .
He was biting it.
